Brea, Whittier and La Habra – Pain-free Sedation Dentistry with Dentist Grant Burdick
At Designed Smiles we understand that, for many patients, going to the dentist can be a stressful experience. Some people even develop a phobia and put off receiving needed dental care. Knowing certain patients may require more than our usual amenities to relax, we offer several sedation dentistry options. These all reduce discomfort, allowing patients to relax throughout their procedure, which makes the process easier for both patients and the dentist. Our office, serving Brea, Whittier, and La Habra, has offered pain-free sedation dentistry for years, and our dentist is extremely adept at helping anxious patients.
Nitrous Oxide
Though it is more commonly known as "laughing gas," nitrous oxide mainly produces a warm, peaceful feeling in patients. Patients stay fully conscious and aware but experience a relaxed, drifting sensation throughout the procedure. Dr. Grant Burdick administers carefully monitored amounts of nitrous oxide to the patient via a breathing mask, and most patients report gradually slipping into a relaxed state. The effects of sedation dentistry with nitrous oxide wear off within minutes after the procedure is finished, and most patients are able to drive safely afterward. Nitrous oxide makes for nearly pain-free dentistry, further easing the patient's dental treatment.
Oral Conscious Sedation
We also offer a variety of oral sedatives, administered in pill form before the procedure, which allow patients to drift through their time in the dentist's chair with little or no memory of the procedure afterward. Patients are prescribed a pill to take the night before their appointment, and they may be asked to take another once they get to the office, depending on their individual preferences and needs. Each patient remains conscious and aware, but with a relaxed feeling and little or no discomfort. Oral conscious sedation lasts longer than nitrous oxide, which makes it better for longer, more complicated procedures; however, patients may not be able to drive immediately after their treatment. Both nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation dentistry are popular with our Brea, Whittier, and La Habra patients; pain-free sedation dentistry allows our dentist and staff to perform procedures like placing
porcelain veneers and
complete smile makeovers more comfortably than ever.
